I third the savic, some people say it's not big enough but for a single dwarf hamster i think it's fine, deffinately better in my opinion than the habitrail, my dwarf lived in one when she was at the shelter

A possible future venture, definitely.
I have both those cages in my shed currently though, so figured I'd get the little guy here first. To be honest I had no intention of getting ANY hamsters (I used to keep them when I was younger and do like them) but people keep putting them on Freecycle.
The Savic then - are it's bars not too far apart? Thanks guys!
I should imagine the bars are ok, they are marketed as a hamster cage. Isn't it sad that people just abandon them like that, this is partly the reason I try to avoid going on that type of site, I'd want to give them all a home
Good luck with your new addition when you get him/her

Sadly, I have to go on sites like that. (It's a useful resource on a low household income, and in theory it's a wonderful idea - it would be even better if there was a "no animals" blanket policy but there isn't.)
Right, will sort the cage out for the next couple of days. Have to say not sure if I'm going to foster and wait for the right home or keep the little one, but they generally end up staying.

Just received a rather upsetting email informing me the people who had this little guy were going to clean him out before bringing him and found him dead. He wasn't very old either poor little thing.
